Reminder for Next Week!

Hey everyone!

I wanted to remind you all about our schedule next week.

ON TUESDAY:
We'll be meeting in the Library's instruction room, located here on this map:

ON THURSDAY:
We will not have class. ECU hosts the Oklahoma Literary Arts Festival every November (some of you may have participated in this before). Halls and classes are just too crazy to have a productive class that day. You can thank the Literary Arts for your day off! PLEASE take this time, though, to work on your essays. Ask questions as you have them!

NO CLASS: 10-28-2013

Hey all.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, class is canceled. Remember that your essays are due to me electronically before class on Thursday, and you need to bring me a hard copy at the beginning of class, otherwise you won't receive full credit for turning it in on time.

If you missed peer reviews, remember to have the writing center send me your form, and add a paragraph to the back of your final essay explaining changes you made and issues you discussed with the writing center.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Otherwise, enjoy the day off and take the time to REVISE YOUR PAPERS!

See you all on Thursday.

Assignment for Thursday 10-23-2014

I want you all to be taking the pointers you were given on your peer reviews to revise your essay. I want you all to deliver strong, confident essays, so PLEASE REVISE!!

The only other thing you need to make sure you do before Thursday is:

Purdue OWL Creating a Thesis, located HERE

Or copy and paste this link: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/545/01/

A strong thesis can make or break your essays, so we'll be discussing this on Thursday.

See you all then!

Assignment for Tuesday 10-14-2014

Writer's Presence: "A Modest Proposal" Jonathan Swift. (Pg. 831)

If you have not submitted an essay to me, please do so now. As of class today (10-09-2014), all papers received electronically or in person will be late. 10 points automatically get deducted for late papers, and 10 points get deducted for every day after. No papers are accepted after a week past their due dates.

Thank you to all who turned in electronic and paper submissions.

I have begun tallying up midterm grades. I think a few of you will be quite pleased to see your hard work paying off. Those of you who have been missing class, not making up your work, and not turning in papers (on time or at all) may be incredibly surprised and disappointed with your midterm grades. I grade as fair as humanly possible. If you do the work, you get the points. If you fall asleep in class, text/play on your phone, chat with your buddies, don't participate in class, and/or don't do the assigned work/readings, this will affect your participation points. Some of you may have done well on your papers, turned in full rough drafts on time, but you still notice that your grade isn't where you think it should be. This is due to absences, lateness, or non-participation.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me or come by my office.

**If you have had extenuating circumstances that have prevented you from being in class (death, severe injury, severe illness of immediate family member or your own severe illness or injury), please take proper documentation to the Office of Academic Affairs to get these absences excused. Even with excused absences, you'll still need to make up the work to prevent any zeros from occuring on your total points. Feel free to also email me if you know you won't be in class, and we can work together to give you makeup assignments.**

REMINDER: Get your topic approved for essay 3 before OCT 14TH!!

Extra Credit Opportunities!

As some of you know, ECU SCREENS is presenting a series of National Royal Theatre (a world-renowned theatre located in London) recorded productions on ECU's campus. These shows are shown very view places around the US, and ECU is one of them!

Sign-in sheets are provided at each screening. I will also be at the majority of these screenings. If you attend any of these screenings, I will give 2 extra participation points for each screening you attend. If you go to any of these and you write a paragraph summary over the screening you watched, I will give you 5 extra participation points. These points will help a LOT of you who are missing participation points from absences.

Most screenings are $5 for students, and the full list of screenings for Fall 2014 is located HERE.

You can also follow ECU Screens on Twitter: @ECUScreens
or you can like their page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ECU.SCREENS
These will keep you updated with events and times screenings will be held.

I will not be announcing it in class, so, if you're actually keeping up with this blog like I've mentioned for you to do, enjoy your easy bonus points.

The next screening is Euripides' Greek tragedy, Medea, tomorrow at 1:00pm and 6:30pm in the Estep (inside ECU's UC).
